Elvira Talavera Perez, 43, of New Mexico has been charged with three counts of negligent child abuse after she was caught on hidden camera shoving a soiled baby wipe down a 10 month baby boy's throat.
The nanny was hired by a family in Las Cruces in July 2011 to look after their newborn son.
After about 5 months from the time Perez was hired, the family noticed some of their personal valuables like gold chains, rings and other jewelry had gone missing.
In the hopes to figure out whether or not Perez was responsible for the alleged thefts, the parents decided to set up a hidden camera in their home.
According to police, the parents were horrified to see their son allegedly being abused by Perez.
The video tapes revealed Perez shoving a soiled wipe into the baby's mouth and on another occasion showing Perez dropping a soiled diaper on to the baby's face as he lay on his changing mat.
The video tapes also showed Perez stealing items of jewelry from the parent's bedroom.
After the father gave the tapes to Las Cruces Police, they immediately launched an investigation into the case of the alleged abuse and theft.
After a two month investigation, Perez was arrested and is now being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.
